Record Store Day 2019. I head into Newbury Comics determined to get Baby Huey: The Living Legend. I had it in my heart of hearts the couple of days prior. It was iron clad, set in stone. Baby Huey. Case closed! I go into Newbury on Kamikaze mode because I know that I will be in and out but... for some reason. Maybe because someone copped it? Or maybe I passed by it? I don’t know? I couldn't find Baby Huey. What??? I guess it was bound to happen because that's a sought after album. Oh well. Maybe next time. So after trying to MacGuyver a Plan B, I ended up finding my way to the hip hop section, skimming, digging, shimmying and stumbled upon my life on an album cover. Two guys at a record shop digging in the crates. Ah...just for the album cover alone that was good enough for me. Now, I heard of DJ Shadow and I also heard dynamite things about this album. A classic! A must own! It was Donuts before Donuts. But wait! I also see Run DMC’s first album too. Dilemma. Dilemma. What should I do? Okay, okay. If I had my way I would get both Run DMC and DJ Shadow but I didn't win no money on The Price is Right and I know if I buy them both I would starve for the week. I can't give up food for funk. Sorry J.B.'s. Alright! DJ Shadow it is. Maybe next time, I'll cop Run-DMC. When I got home. I cued up the turntable. First drop on the needle and that was a wrap. You won me over, DJ Shadow and after it was said and done, it became one of my favorite buys...sorry Baby Huey.
