No matter how you feel about sampling, hip hop does a great job at keeping the songs alive. It doesn’t matter if it’s keeping the original song intact or chopping it to the point where it's unrecognizable. You’re hearing the original source when you’re listening through the drum machine and the lyrics. As far as getting fair compensation goes, that’s another topic for another day. I don’t follow the x brought me here trend like they do on the comments section on YouTube but I was introduced to this album through Brand Nubian. For me, I get intrigued by how an artist uses a sample and if it’s creative and inspiring enough to make me want to track down the source and start a relationship with the song. I’m always on a quest to learn something new and when I hear an inspiring art form like sampling, it makes me want to track down the album too. So I can get a full appreciation of the artist, the musicianship with the band and the album overall. I know with Instant Death, it’s one of buys that I'm glad that I picked up digging because it’s an amazing journey top to bottom and inspired me to keep a pulse on Mr. Harris. Fortunately, I came across an Eddie album through Dad’s stash, Live At Newport. I’ll have to give that a spin and keep you posted on that. Stay tuned...
